CHRISTMAS 2017

Dear Friends,

Here’s our round-up of news for the year...

Alastair: This year has been very busy for me, finishing year 11 and completing my GCSE exams (with sufficient success). The start of year 12 has also gone fairly smoothly. As for music, I was accepted into the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and have just completed my first term there - and passed with a distinction my grade 6 organ exam, as well as playing the organ in a concert for the first time. I am generally doing well, and give best wishes to those who have helped and supported me this year.

Tim: I went to Indonesia, passed my exams, got a haircut and started Sixth Form, so it’s been a fairly decent year.

Buff: I am thoroughly enjoying the delights and challenges of St Catherine’s - grateful for the support of the wider church as we have a received a grant big enough to build a new permanent church building. The people of St Catherine’s are positive, outward looking and growing in number! My running is slower though I have managed 10k races 3 times this year; the garden still produces raspberries, blueberries and loads of beans! I managed to get up Scarfell Pike at Easter at a considerable distance behind the boys and loved being in Portugal in the summer sunshine: clear turquoise sea,
golden sand and sunshine make my heart sing. My Mum (Granny) is more frail but retains her warmth, generosity and slightly naughty sense of humour. We are all very thankful that she is settled in her nursing home.

David: Another eventful year at Coventry Cathedral - a place that is many things but never dull, beginning with Archbishop Justin’s New Year broadcast and ending with planning for a possible royal visit early in the new year. In between I had my portrait painted (see number 7 here) which, like many things round here, was awesome and fun. Great holidays in Cumbria and Portugal. Really enjoying all the opportunities to bask in the reflected glory of what the rest of the family gets up to!

With our love and best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
